The Stolisma

Stolisma & Adornment

The Allamata, also known as Stolisma, is one of the most enduring wedding customs in Cyprus. It is the ritual adornment of the bride and groom in their family homes before the ceremony, accompanied by the traditional music of violin and lute.

The Zomata

Dressing & the Zomata

The koumparos dresses Livingstone while the koumpara and bridesmaids adorn Thekla. This is followed by the Zomata — their parents wrap a red scarf around them three times as a blessing of fertility, protection, and the sanctity of their union. The Kapnistiri ritual follows, where incense smoke is waved around them with a censer for spiritual cleansing.

The Zosimo

Red Scarf Blessing (Zosimo)

Parents or relatives tie a red scarf around the waist or shoulders of the bride and groom three times to symbolize protection from evil, enhance fertility, and strengthen their union.

The Sacrament

The Rings & Joining of Hands

The priest blesses the rings and makes the sign of the cross over the couple's heads. The koumparos then exchanges the rings three times — signifying that in married life, the weakness of one partner is compensated by the other. As the prayer concludes, the priest places their right hands together, joining them as husband and wife.

The Ceremony

The Crowning & Common Cup

The stefana (crowns) represent the glory and honour God bestows upon the couple. Joined by a ribbon symbolizing their unity, the crowns are exchanged three times over their heads. Thekla and Livingstone then share three sips of wine from the Common Cup — their first act of unity, recalling the Wedding at Cana and the sacredness of their bond.

The Celebration

The Dance of Isaiah

The priest leads Thekla and Livingstone in their first walk together around the table, while the koumparos follows holding the ribbon of the stefana. And watch the bride's feet — tradition says she may step her right foot over the groom's left, just to show she's not afraid of him!

The Feast

Food & Wine

Under the open sky of the Ampeleon Estate, we'll share a Cypriot feast — long tables filled with grilled meats, halloumi, fresh salads, and local wine, in true island tradition of hospitality and abundance.

Live Band

A live band and DJ will keep the night alive with a mix of Greek Cypriot favourites, afrohouse and modern hits, setting the soundtrack for toasts, laughter, and celebration long after the sun goes down.

Dancing the Night Away

From the couple's first dance to traditional Cypriot circle dances and everything in between, the dance floor stays open until the early hours, so bring your best moves and join us.

Think fun, elegant, and cocktail chic. June in Cyprus is beautifully warm, so light fabrics are your best friend. Don't forget your dancing shoes, we plan on tearing up the dance floor until the early hours!
